One of the permanent residents of Mt. Desert Island, who seemed a little annoyed that I was disturbing his naptime. This is one of this year's crop of babies, and he (she?) was napping, with Mom nearby. They didn't seem particularly bothered, probably because I was on the boardwalk portion of Jesup Path, and not likely to jump off!

Sunset in Acadia

Acadia National Park is my favorite place to be this time of year.  Although the daytime weather was either a little dreary or blindingly bright, we were treated to some good sunsets and sunrises. This is a sunset from Cadillac Mountain, with Eagle Lake in the foreground.

Summer's Last Gasp

While walking around Wiscasset this past weekend, I noticed this scene: dying plants and flowering plants that didn't look too chipper. It's the end of summer, and although the weather would indicate otherwise, the plants know it's time to pack it in. The foliage is appearing, and I hope we'll get cooler weather so it will really seem like fall!

Early Turning

Every year there's always one tree whose leaves turn early, and this swamp maple at a low part of the pasture is a prime example. The official Maine foliage report says this area has "Low" color, but they forgot to tell this tree.
